FIT-AND-FORGET PUSH-PULL ACTUATOR ENSURES HIGH OPERATIONAL RELIABILITY

The Grob Linear Chain actuator from R.A. Rodriguez is a hugely popular system for push-pull applications involving long strokes, where space is at a premium and weight needs to be minimised.  These credentials have resulted in the product being specified for a wide range of tasks but until now its scope has been limited by the need for the user to lubricate the system manually as part of a routine maintenance regime.

Thanks to a new development however, this restriction no longer applies. Grob Linear Chain actuators can now be supplied with an automatic lubrication system and the option can be retrofitted to every field-installed Grob Linear Chain too - simply, quickly and inexpensively.

The main components are the lubricant dispenser and associated drive which can be adapted to suit the lubrication intervals determined by the customer.  The dispenser can be refilled up to five times and exchanged easily.  A food-safe oil with NSF certifications and H1 approval is used as standard; special greases and other oils are also available.

Longer service life, less unplanned maintenance and greater system reliability are clear benefits of continuous lubrication.  It also ensures the Linear Chain is optimally lubricated i.e. not under or over-lubricated, a common problem with manual lubrication.  And as this is a closed dust-proof and waterproof system, Linear Chains can be used in relatively hostile environments.

In operation, thanks to its special profile with interlocking fingers, the Grob Linear Chain becomes a rigid thrust device that pushes a guided load on a linear slide or a rail.  It provides high positioning accuracy, constant stroke speed and shock-free motion with no elastic hysteresis under load.  Typical applications include opening and closing roofs, theatre set actuation, loading platforms, container transfer, component handling and warehouse logistics.
